2019 Home for the Holidays

Page 4 2019 Home for the Holidays LINCOLN DAILY NEWS November 27, 2019 Oh to be a child again! I n our hurried adult world and bustling lives, one moment it’s just a few days before Halloween, and just after you draw your next breath, it’s the week of Thanksgiving, with Christmas looming. No real time to prepare, no way to slow it all down, just jump in and say the Serenity Prayer multiple times a day! In the midst of the cascade of the holidays and their distinct requirements, it’s important, significant, and even vital that you not lose yourself or sacrifice your values. Loving people, caring for people and communicating that lifestyle can seriously get dented by the onslaught of the holidays. Black Friday, gift exchanges, special outfits, intricate menus and difficult preparations, guests arriving late, guests arriving early, children’s programs at school, and even lack of time off from work to get this all done are just a few of the stresses that are a part of many people’s lives. Losing your temper, losing your patience, saying things you later regret, hurting people’s feelings, having a harsh look on your face or a harsh tone in your voice, and becoming someone you don’t want to be, are all significant dangers when you are under the holiday stress and pressure. With all of this in mind, Lincoln Daily News has published this Home for the Holidays magazine. The theme is “Creating Atmosphere,” meant to put a little more oxygen in the room for you (and maybe a little laughing-gas too). The aim is to care for you so that it remains possible for you to care for your loved ones. Slow things down, provide some comfort to others, and we offer some suggested gentle care for your soul, that you might give thanks, celebrate the birth of the Savior, and ring in a new year with child-like joy. From all of us to all of you, Happy Holidays!
