LDN -- Top Stories

Auctioneers kept a close watch on the bidders at the 4-H auction at the Logan County Fair on Sunday afternoon. The auctioneers all volunteer their time and talents to the auction. Proceeds from the sale this year exceeded $60,000. All but 3 percent of that amount will go to the young people who participated in the auction. This year a wide variety of animals were on the block, plus some other 4-H projects. The auction is the last official 4-H event of the fair, and the crowds turned out to see how the kids would fare at this year's sale.

Former St. Louis Cardinal World Series champion skipper and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog was in Mount Pulaski over the weekend on a local fishing outing with his son, Jim, and two grandchildren, while his wife, Mary Lou, and daughter-in-law, Ann Hubbard Herzog, shopped at Saddie's Secret Place on the west side of the Mount Pulaski square.
