[August 26, 2013]      Send a link to a friend Last year the Up in Smoke
barbecue competition added an Anything Goes competition to the mix,
and it turned out to be a very popular event. This year the competition
returned, and once again the cooks of the Kansas City Barbeque
			Society competition brought
their best to the table for area first responders.   In all, 13 teams competed in
this year's event. The judging was divided into four tables with
five judges at each table. Judges consisted of members from the
city of Lincoln and Lincoln Rural fire departments, Lincoln
Police Department, Logan County Sheriff's Department, Illinois
State Police, and Logan County Emergency Management Agency. The KCBS provided one captain for each table. Entries were
judged on three criteria: presentation, taste and sauce. In
addition, each entry was required to incorporate watermelon into
their presentation. It took a lot of admiring of
the artistry as well as a lot of tasting, but in the end the judges
made their decisions and the winners were announced. In this year's competition, the
following entries took top honors: First place:  All in Que,
with team members John Laften and Judy Woodard from Mason CitySecond place:  Rip Tip Tuesday, with team members Nic Safranek and Tim
			Turrell from Bloomington
Third place:  Smoke Em if You Got Em, with team members Ron Merritt,
Rick Freed and Chad Emberton of Lincoln
