After the opening prayer
Tuesday evening, Marty Ahrends, executive director of the Abraham
Lincoln Healthcare Foundation, read aloud the poem "Light a Candle."
This year the honorary chairs
for the Light Up a Life service were Dave and Diane Campbell, who
did the honor of lighting the tree decorated with white lights and
topped with a blue star. The couple spoke to the guests about
the importance of the financial support that is gained through the
Light Up a Life project.
They also named the family
members whom they were remembering and honoring and invited guests
to do the same.
After a few minutes of
remembrance, McCuan led the group in the singing of Christmas songs.
