Christmas Eve accident claims the life of Hartsburg woman

[December 27, 2013]  HARTSBURG — Misty Dawn Johnson, 35, of Hartsburg, died as a result of an auto accident Tuesday night.

The accident happened in the 2100 block of 600th Avenue, south of Emden, on the Emden-Burton View blacktop.

Logan County Sheriff Steve Nichols said the call came in at 10:35 p.m.

In the vehicle with Johnson were her son, Skyler Hashman, 13, and daughter Tyler Scott, 9.

The vehicle left the roadway, went into a field and rolled over. All of the occupants were ejected.

Mrs. Johnson's vehicle was followed by her husband, Wayne Johnson.

Logan County Coroner Robert Thomas pronounced Misty Johnson dead at the scene at 10:58 p.m.

One child was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria and the other to St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Skyler suffered a broken leg. Tyler's condition was unknown.

The crash is under investigation by the Logan County Sheriff's Department and the county coroner's office. Illinois State Police accident reconstructionists were called in to assist.
