It's time for a 'Dream' breakfast

[January 10, 2013]  Once again it's time to attend the annual Joyce Kinzie/Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast. It will be held this year at the Lincoln College Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium (old gym) on Jan. 21. The program will start at 7:30 a.m., and doors will open at 7 a.m.

The event will feature a buffet-style breakfast prepared by the Lincoln College food service staff and promises to be rewarding to one's taste buds. Upon arrival and finding a seat, participants will be asked to go through the buffet line. All beverages will be served at the table by volunteers.

Tickets for the breakfast are $8 each and may be purchased at the State Bank Wal-Mart branch, Lincoln College, Second Baptist Church, and from Cathy Tiffany or Les Plotner. The breakfast will provide the opportunity to recognize the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement and will also provide an opportunity to pay tribute to Joyce Kinzie for her tireless dedication and efforts to make the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund and Breakfast a successful project.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund makes it possible to provide scholarships to minority high school graduates from Lincoln and Logan County to attend Lincoln College and an opportunity to earn a college degree.

A short program is planned for the breakfast and will feature a presentation of Dr. King's famous speech "I Have a Dream," given by Michael Coley, a freshman at Lincoln College. Coley is also a minister and serves as youth minister and outreach liaison at the Millenium Faith Church in Decatur. His interests are in business management, speech and vocal music.

The Rev. Glenn Sheldon, of Second Baptist Church in Lincoln, will provide some remarks about the purpose of the breakfast and the scholarship.

Edrianel Tookes, a 2012 graduate of Lincoln High School, was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Minority Scholarship for 2012-2013 at Lincoln College. She will give a short presentation during the program.

Also featured on the program will be the Lincoln College Choir, singing ''Wade in the Water." Songs will also be presented by the Second Baptist Youth Choir.

This annual event presents an opportunity for you to open your hearts and minds to a very worthy cause.
