Friday afternoon while visiting the Lincoln Theater for a special showing of her movie "Brave," Logan County native Brenda Chapman was surprised by a visit from Mayor Keith Snyder and Alderwoman Marty Neitzel. They were there to deliver a proclamation declaring this to be "Brenda Chapman Weekend" in Lincoln.

Chapman was at the theater signing autographs and spoke briefly before the beginning of her movie. She also explained that she is a longtime friend of theater owner David Lanterman. Chapman will be honored on Saturday at Lincoln College, where she attended before earning a degree in animation.

The Mount Pulaski Courthouse Foundation chose Arbor Day to plant three donated trees -- one by Tom and Cheryl Martin in honor of Tom's mother, Jean Martin, in recognition of all that she has done for the Mount Pulaski Courthouse through the years. Two other trees were donated by Doug Johnson, expressing his thanks to customers, friends and employees of Johnson's True Value Hardware in Mount Pulaski.
