During Lincoln College’s commencement on Saturday, LC President John D. Blackburn awarded two honorary degrees: a Doctor of Fine Arts to Brenda Chapman and a Doctor of Laws to Judge James A. Knecht. The judge first amused the crowd with a story from his college years about a lucky trip. He then illustrated the invaluable lesson he learned from it: In order to live a life of balance, it is important to renew yourself, take a weekend pass. For him this meant time shared with his family.

Sunday afternoon the annual Lincoln MS Walk took place at Lincoln Christian University. Threats of rain chased the walkers away from Kickapoo Creek Park, but as it turned out, the waterfall stayed away and the walkers did take their laps outside. LDN will have more pictorial coverage of this event in the Tuesday edition.

When he first saw the organ in France's most famous cathedral, Philippe Lefebvre was 15 and a piano student. "I thought that there were many more possibilities than with a piano. Even though I find the piano magnificent, this is just a whole new world," he said. Despite the advances in organ technology, Lefebvre feels the weight of history in his job. There are deep gashes in the wood carvings of the organ loft of Notre Dame -- a legacy of revolutionaries from the late 18th century who slashed away the fleur-de-lis symbol of the monarchy. But, Lefebvre said, they refrained from melting down the metal pipes into bullets.
