| The chapter has developed a yearlong service-learning project to
meet local environmental needs. The environmental program grants
are provided through funding from corporate sponsors CSX and the
Donaldson Foundation as a special project of the National FFA
Foundation. The Hartsburg-Emden FFA project includes plans to collect
corrugated cardboard from their school and both communities,
Hartsburg and Emden. The cardboard will be delivered to Midwest
Fiber at Bloomington for recycling. Cardboard is a bulky material
and not many people and businesses want to handle this material. The
FFA has purchased an enclosed cargo trailer to store the cardboard
until it is full and then delivered to the recycling center.
The project illustrates the FFA motto -- "Learning to Do, Doing
to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve" -- by encouraging FFA
members to unite in service within their communities. The Living to
Serve: Environmental Grant program takes community service one step
further to service-learning, which provides a meaningful way to
apply leadership and education skills learned in school and FFA. More information about the environmental grant program is
			available at
			www.ffa.org/envirogrants.
The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth
and career success training through agricultural education to
579,678 student members in grades seven through 12 who belong to one
of 7,570 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the
			Virgin Islands.

The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of
students by developing their potential for premier leadership,
personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
The National FFA Organization operates under a federal charter
granted by the 81st United States Congress and is an integral part
of public instruction in agriculture. The U.S. Department of
Education provides leadership and helps set direction for FFA as a
service to state and local agricultural education programs. For more
information, visit the National FFA Organization online at
			www.ffa.org, on
			Facebook, Twitter
and the official National FFA Organization
blog. The National FFA Foundation builds partnerships with industry,
education, government, other foundations and individuals to secure
financial resources that recognize FFA member achievements, develop
student leaders and support the future of agriculture education.
Governed by a 19-member board of trustees comprised of educators,
business leaders, individual donors and FFA alumni, the foundation
is a separately registered nonprofit organization. About 82 percent
of all sponsorship dollars received by the foundation support FFA
members and agricultural education opportunities. For more
information, visit the National FFA Foundation at
http://www.ffa.org/give. The Donaldson Foundation, established in 1966, funds charitable
causes on behalf of the Donaldson Co. The mission of the foundation
is to positively impact the communities where its employees live and
work by supporting education. To learn more about the Donaldson
