In
spite of occasional rain throughout the day Thursday, work on Hamilton
Street went on as promised. The whitetop project involved pouring concrete.
The construction company doing the job, Otto Baum, had a massive crew on hand,
covering the concrete to protect it from the raindrops and pushing hard to keep
the project on schedule. If all goes well, Hamilton Street should reopen
Monday.

A
damaged Capitol Hill police car is surrounded by crime-scene tape on
Constitution Avenue near the U.S. Capitol after a car chase and shooting
occurred Thursday in Washington. A woman driving a car with a young child
inside tried to ram through a White House barricade, then led police on a chase
toward the Capitol, where police shot and killed her, witnesses and officials
said.
