LDN -- Top Stories

In spite of occasional rain throughout the day Thursday, work on Hamilton Street went on as promised. The whitetop project involved pouring concrete. The construction company doing the job, Otto Baum, had a massive crew on hand, covering the concrete to protect it from the raindrops and pushing hard to keep the project on schedule. If all goes well, Hamilton Street should reopen Monday.

The Lincoln Fire Department is observing Fire Safety Month throughout October with several activities planned for local schoolchildren.

This week, kindergarten student Bryce Conner was the first this year to get to ride to school in a city fire truck. He won the honor by creating the masterpiece above. Bryce's poster of a firefighter working to put out a house fire won first place among 14 kindergarten entries. For more photos from Bryce's ride, see the Teaching & Learning section below.
